The Philippines is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and its government has been plagued by numerous scandals and allegations of mismanagement over the years. In 2016, the country was ranked as the most corrupt in Asia, with Transparency International placing it at 113 out of 176 countries.

One of the most prominent examples of government corruption in the Philippines is the case of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who was repeatedly accused of serious corruption and misuse of public funds.

During her term, she was found to have used her office to gain huge profits from government contracts that had been awarded to her and her allies. Furthermore, the country has long struggled with political patronage, as those with strong ties to the government are often afforded preferential treatment in hiring and decision-making. This enables those individuals to take advantage of the system and leaves the public with very little recourse.

Another major problem faced by the country is the prevalence of bribery.
