3 Restaurant Role Play Scenarios

Restaurant role play scenarios: Taking an Order

In this scenario, one employee will play the role of a customer who is ready to place an order, while the other employee will play the role of a server taking the order. The goal is to make the customer feel welcomed, listen attentively to their order, and provide helpful suggestions or recommendations.

Here’s an outline of the scenario:

Customer: “Hello, I’m ready to order.”

Server: “Great, I’m happy to assist you. What would you like to start with?”

Customer: “Hmm, let me see. Can we start with some appetizers? What do you recommend?”

Server: “Sure thing! Our most popular appetizer is our fried calamari, but we also have garlic bread and mozzarella sticks. Which one sounds good to you?”

Customer: “I’ll have the fried calamari, please.”

Server: “Excellent choice. And what can I get for you as your main course?”

Customer: “I’m in the mood for something hearty. What do you suggest?”

Server: “Well, our signature dish is the beef short ribs, slow-cooked in a red wine sauce and served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. It’s a customer favorite.”

Customer: “That sounds delicious. I’ll have that.”

Server: “Great choice. And would you like anything to drink with your meal?”

Customer: “I’ll have a glass of the house red wine, please.”

Server: “Excellent. And would you like any dessert to finish off your meal?”

Customer: “I don’t think I have room for dessert, but thanks for asking.”

Server: “No problem. So, to recap, you’ll have the fried calamari for appetizer, the beef short ribs for your main course, and a glass of the house red wine. Is that correct?”

Customer: “Yes, that’s correct.”

Server: “Perfect. Your order will be ready shortly. Is there anything else I can assist you with?”

Customer: “No, that’s it. Thank you.”

Server: “Thank you for dining with us. Enjoy your meal!”

This scenario allows employees to practice their communication and upselling skills, as well as their ability to provide recommendations and suggestions that enhance the customer’s dining experience. The key to success is to be attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu items, and to listen closely to the customer’s preferences and requests.
